Blue Tower At 63 Commissariat Lines, Saddar, for Karachi Biennale
A site specific installation utilizing disposed off mirror windows which belonged to the property, and was previously used as a water purification plant.
Building this capsule container was a result of a large archive of documentation capturing towering apartments sprouting up in Bath Island and McNeil Road where residences are built with reflective mrrors and windows are no longer points o escape, but rather trappings of architecture.
For ‘Witness’, (Karachi Biennale 2017) the purpose in reusing windows and doors from this estate, which is a huddel jewel in a high traffic commercial area off-M.A. Jinnah Road, brought an opportunity to rethink how we live, breathe and isolate. Upon stepping inside this mirror capsule with astroturf and painted blue stripes, viewers can see the estate reflecting in the mirrors as well as the pastel blue apartments surrounding 63 Commissariat.
